Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient technique of healing that has been around for over 2,000 years. Remains of the Ice Man indicate that a primitive form of acupuncture was used over 5,000 years ago.

During an acupuncture treatment, small, thin needles are inserted at various points on the body that correspond with meridians on the body. These meridians are actually energy channels of the body. When the energy is flowing correctly, you are in good health. When the energy becomes blocked, health is adversely affected. Many modern acupuncturists also hook major meridian points to electrical currents. This increases the benefits received during a treatment.

Research has shown for many years that stress adversely affects health, along with poor nutrition, and lack of exercise. Now many physicians and alternative medicine practitioners realize that our emotions can affect our health. Acupuncture helps sadness, depression, and anger to name a few.

Most acupuncturists today use disposable needles. They are very fine and vary in length. Most of the time they do not hurt when being inserted. If a channel is blocked, there will be a dull ache or throb. This is actually a good thing. It means stagnant energy is being moved.

Acupuncture is very useful for treating pain. Headaches, backaches, arthritis, and bursitis can be controlled and sometimes eliminated through acupuncture.

On a personal level, I have been treated for allergies, asthma, heel spurs, back pain, and migraines. I still take medication for milder allergies and asthma. The other problems have been totally eliminated.

If a person has a fear of needles, this treatment would not be advised.
