Signs Your Pet May Be Ill

Pets are like small children. It’s difficult to know when they are sick. They can’t talk to us. But there are signs for which to look:

  • Amount of water they drink daily seems to change (more or less)
  • Stops eating food he used to enjoy
  • Stools appear different
  • Urinates more than normal
  • Major change in behavior (doesn’t want to play anymore, or begins to sleep more)
  • Hides for several days
  • Wants to be alone when he used to be socialable
  • Throws up a lot
  • Breaths heavily when he hasn’t been running, playing or isn’t overheated
  • A docile animal suddenly becomes aggressive with familiar people
  • Has lumps that don’t go away
  • Has sores that don’t heal
  • Sheds more than usual (birds lose more feathers)
  • Has difficulty going up or down stairs
  • Breath smells worse than usual
  • Cats don’t groom themselves as usual and may begin to miss the litter box
