Spiritual Poems

Heavenly Father, Hear My Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please listen to my prayer.
I come to you again
With longing and despair.

I have so many problems
They increase in every way.
I don’t know how I can make it
Through yet another day.

I know there is a secret to dealing
With the turmoil and the strife.
Can you please just show me
How to live a carefree life?

Where is all the joy and happiness
That I’ve heard so much about?
Freedom from the fear and pain,
Mistrust and all the doubt?

Just one day is all I ask
To feel such joy and love
As only You, the Heavenly Father
Can send me from above.

So as I call upon Your name,
Now in solemn prayer,
I know that you’ve delivered me
From all my earthly cares.

The answer is so simple
When we just take time to look.
For everything we need to know
Is in God’s Holy Book.

Why Me, Lord?

“Why me, Lord?”
I prayed with a sigh.
“Why not you?”
Was my Lord’s reply.

“But I didn’t deserve this,
And I know that this is true.
So I need to understand why.”
And God said, “Why not you?”

The days are long,
The nights are, too.
Each day I hear God’s voice
Repeating, “Why not you?”

Well, why not me?
On this I meditate.
Why not me?
Could this just be my fate?

Are we truly here,
Predestined for each day?
Is there one path to follow,
Must we be pushed along the way?

When we learn to give control
Of this mighty ship we sail
To our Lord and Master
Then we can not fail.

For only God can lead us
To where we need to go.
But the hardest thing for some of us
Is to give up our need to know.

But if God is truly guiding us
Each step along the way,
We no longer have to worry
All of each and every day.

“Why me, Lord?”
Will no longer by our cry.
We will no longer need to know
The answers about “Why?”

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a concept
That I struggled with each day.
I had many friends
Who tried to show me the way.

They never could seem to understand
How difficult it could be.
I wanted to let go
But I didn’t know how to be set free.

I continued to have this problem.
Finally one day a program I did see.
Joyce Meyers talked about forgiveness.
Her message was just for me.

“Unforgiveness is like
A poison that you make,
Hoping to kill your enemy
But it’s your own life it will take.”

Her suggestion was so simple,
I couldn’t believe how easy it would be.
Just tell God you’re ready,
And He will do the rest, you’ll see.

So I got down on my knees in prayer
Each and every day.
And slowly God began to lift
All my cares away.

As the unforgiveness
Began to leave my heart,
I realized I was ready
To make a brand new start.

And yes, my forgiveness
Will pass the acid test!
What I wish for my enemies
Is all life’s very best.

**This poem was inspired by a sermon from Joyce Meyers.

A Message From Your Conscience

I’m the voice that speaks to you.
I’m your conscience, some might say.
You know that what you did was wrong.
You don’t need me to point the way.

But still again, you do pretend
That you don’t know right from wrong.
While I contend that your moral compass
Has always been too strong.

For what you resist is like a magnet
Pulling you night and day.
When you are in this battle
You seem to fight me all the way.

Instead of resisting,
You need to learn to love
The parts that need healing
And forgiveness from above.

For when you truly love yourself,
You’ll have less need of me.
Then maybe I can have the rest
That I need so desperately!

A Teacher’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Please bless me
Into usefulness this day.
I hold these precious children
In my heart as I do pray.

Please fill my classroom
Now with your holy love
As I pass on the wisdom
Sent to me from above.

I also need patience, love,
And guidance, too.
And please protect my spirit
As I pray now to you.

And then I heard an angel
Whisper in my ear.
“Your heart will be broken
By the children you hold dear.

But keep your sights set
On high and lofty goals,
Even though you’ll face
Rejection in your soul.

For some children will be harder
To love than all the others.
These will be the jewels upon your crown,
When you do bother.

For teaching is a spiritual journey
That only the brave will make.
You’ll have our help and guidance
With every step you take.”

As I raised my head,
I looked around in surprise,
As visions of their futures
Seemed to flash before my eyes.

And in confusion,
It slowly dawned on me.
That each of their successes
Would be partly due to me!
